School Committees

Parents and the community are very supportive of the educational program at Mission Valley. Parents are encouraged to participate on advisory councils such as the School Site Council (SSC) and English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC). Our many active parent booster clubs support our athletic teams, band, agriculture and other programs. Parents are always welcome to attend school events including assemblies, college information nights, back-to-school night, open house, drama and dance productions, and graduation. Many programs and activities are enriched by the generous contributions made by many local businesses. Parents who wish to become volunteers or participate in Mission Valley leadership teams, school committees, school activities may contact Maria Cervantes at 805-742-2940.

School Site Council (SSC)

In California, a School Site Council (SSC) is a legally required decision-making body at each school receiving federal funds, primarily focusing on developing and monitoring the school’s improvement plan. SSC is composed of teachers, parents, and other school staff members, with equal representation between staff and parent/community/student representatives. The SSC plays a key role in identifying student needs, reviewing student achievement data, and developing the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).   

Each fall, parents are elected to School Site Council.

English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC)

In California, any school with 21 or more English learners must form an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a group of parents, staff, and community members who advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English Learners. ELAC helps review the school’s language development programs, student progress, and supports parent involvement. The committee plays a key role in ensuring English Learner needs are reflected in the school’s planning and decision-making.
